Compare the "topside" of the Titanic then and now.

mosaic_before This "birds-eye" view of a Titanic model allows you to see in intricate detail her lifeboats, stacks and skylights. This is how she looked when launched.
mosaic_after This "photomosaic" of the wreck contrasts remarkably from her original condition. This photo is actually a compilation of over 3,000 individual photographs that have been reconstructed to give us this extraordinary view...one that is impossible to see from one vantage point.

The photomosaic was obtained using the "mowing the lawn" imaging technique, where a remote camera is continuously run over the bow section in a lengthwise pattern, snapping pictures continuously. These images are then downloaded, studied, and hand recompiled on a computer. It is estimated that it takes one and a half person work years to recompile the photographic data into the picture you see.
